Yes, people are talking about it! And it is precisely in a well-known show of the French-speaking Swiss Radio, entitled “On en parle”, that journalists recently discussed the emergence of a raw food trend in Switzerland. I am thrilled with the result, so listen in if you speak French and find out for yourself. The show lasts around 7 minutes, and is based on a live interview made of me on 19 March 2010, just minutes before I gave a class to a group of new participants. The journalist asked relevant questions that make the show interesting to a wide range of people. If you know anyone who might be interested and understands French, do spread the message and share the link!
The one thing to remember of this show is to please yourself, follow your instincts and avoid any dogma: as you know, such is my philosophy!
Raw Trend
Sandra Zimmerli talks about a food trend of the 21st century: eating raw.
A real lifestyle, not cooking your food is said to provide enhanced energy, better health and would allow getting rid of many ailments and discomforts.
Eating raw is trendy in the USA, and is attracting an increasing number of enthusiasts over here. Health, nutrition and lifestyle magazines are all talking about it. Several raw food restaurants might even be in the pipeline in Western Switzerland. Experts teach classes and organize workshops.
How does eating raw actually work and what kind of people are attracted by this new trend? Interview with Amy Webster, Raw Food Coach in Morges, near Lausanne and not far from Geneva.

Yes, I am continuing to bombard you with good news… the raw food world in Switzerland is taking off, not just through media coverage (press article and radio interview more recently, which I will blog about very soon) but also as raw food experts are coming to visit and thus exposing us to their magic and wisdom! My last post was about Kate Magic’s upcoming visit and now I want to share with you that the great and inspiring inventor of Green Smoothies, Victoria Boutenko, will also be in Switzerland.
Victoria is on a European tour to promote her new book, “Green Smoothie Revolution“. She will be giving a talk in Zurich on Saturday 10 April. We tried to have her come to Geneva for a local talk, but unfortunately Victoria was unable to fit that into her schedule but she promised to come on her next European visit. To sign up to the event, go to www.greensmoothies.ch and sign up with my friend and organizer Rafael Jaermann.
As a quick reminder, Victoria is the author of “Green for Life” which has been a great success worldwide, spreading the message of the many health-enhancing benefits of green smoothies. Visit her website Raw Family to read all about what she and her wonderful two children Valya and Sergei do to promote the raw and living lifestyle, and so much more. The story of this family is an eye-opener regarding what raw food can do to cure life-threatening diseases so do take a look.
Meanwhile, I wanted to share with you the following recipe which Victoria published in one of her recent newsletters. It’s a green smoothie recipe, of course, and a perfect one to sustain us through winter months… even if we are at the beginning of spring, it is still slightly cold, so let’s continue to warm our food and our hearts with wonderful plants and spices like… ginger!
Ginger Green Smoothie, by Victoria Boutenko
In the wintertime, we like to put ginger in our green smoothies. Curiously, we don’t like to use it much in the warm season. Lately I have been putting one inch of ginger root in my smoothie daily and today’s one tasted so wonderful that I decided to share its recipe with you.
1 bunch dandelion greens
1 ripe mango (with peel if it’s organic, but without pit)
1 ripe banana
½ inch ginger root
2-3 cups water
Blend well and enjoy.
Facts about Ginger
Ginger dates back over 3,000 years to India. Ginger is native to Southern Asia and has long been a staple addition to Asian cuisines. It is quite popular in the Caribbean Islands, where it grows wild in lush tropical settings.
Traditional Ayurvedic Medicine has recommended ginger for many gastrointestinal and blood diseases. It is used for abdominal bloating, coughing, vomiting, diarrhea, and for the treatment of inflammatory joint diseases, such as arthritis and rheumatism. A little piece of ginger goes a long way. Look at the multiple benefits:
- Enhances natural resistance for cold and flu.
- Reduces inflammation.
- Supports healthy digestion, offering 180 times the protein digestive power of papaya.
- Soothes digestion.
- Contains at least 12 anti-aging constituents that inactivate free radicals.
- Supports blood platelet health and cardiovascular function.
- 22 known constituents inhibit inflammatory 5-lipoxygenase, supports prostate health.
- May increase absorption and utilization of other nutrients and herbs by 2 to 2.5 times.
Ginger is a good source of Dietary Fiber, Vitamin E, Vitamin B6, Iron, Magnesium, Potassium and Selenium, and a very good source of Manganese.

It is with great pleasure, and a touch of pride too, that I discovered last Friday an almost full page on raw food and Simply Raw in our favorite local daily paper, “24 Heures“. The journalist had come to me, intrigued by this blog, to follow a condensed introductory class, taste a few raw dishes and discover this magical world that so many people are talking about. Such articles will go a long way to spread the message of a healthier, more vibrant and so much more natural way of eating and living.

Let’s note in passing the usual comment from a nutritionist — the sign of professional journalism in double-checking the information. It would have been wiser, however, to question a nutritionist who knows something about raw and living foods! She would have known that human needs in proteins can be largely covered by plant-sourced amino-acids, which are much more easily absorbed by the human body, and widely present in large quantities of green leafy vegetables and sprouts — an essential part of a raw fooder’s diet. That carbohydrates are largely found in fruits and vegetables, in a form that balances the blood sugar, so there is no problem in lacking any body fuel! And that no well informed raw fooder would ever consume dried beans raw. In fact, no grain or cereal is ever consumed as is, but sprouted — which is very different in terms of nutritional content and digestibility!
But never mind! Raw food, which very few practitioners know and understand in our part of the world, is regularly discarded by the mainstream media as being potentially dangerous for some individuals. And yet, the traditional food pyramid which is today completely outdated, continues to promote the consumption of animal protein with cereal carbohydrates or starch at each single meal. There are numerous examples of the damages done on the health of seniors, adults and children alike from such food combinations on a daily basis. Today’s nutritionist advice does not take into consideration the latest advances in food sciences. Practitioners might want to consider reading the books of such leading-edge professionals as Dr. Brian Clement, Dr. Doug Graham, Dr. Gabriel Cousens, to start…
And let’s also remember that raw food is there to provide new answers, new sensations and allow many of us to feel oh so much better than before! And that everyone should strive to find their own path, their own rhythm, their own degree of raw and their own food program according to their own needs and preferences — in my own interpretation, there are no forbidden foods, only a vast choice of abundant foods! So here’s one piece of advice: follow your own body and instinct rather than listening to all the experts, who keep raising contradictions and confusion. Let your body and inner wisdom be your unique guides!
Next SIMPLY RAW Class
The next introductory class to raw foods is taking place in Morges in French on Tuesday 16 March 2010 and in English on Saturday 17 April 2010. Don’t miss this opportunity to live a unique experience, one you won’t forget! Past participants to this class have walked out feeling enthusiastic, energized and truly inspired to improve their lives. Why wouldn’t you? To sign up, send an email here.

Are you aware that our bodies are filled with light? And that the quantity and intensity of this light reveals our state of health?
I find this notion both appealing and fascinating. Hereafter you will find an extract of an article published in the magazine “Passion”, the well being ezine from Shazzie’s Detox Your World, on February 16. Written by Renata Ash, it reveals remarkable information on the presence of light in all living cells. I found it so profound that I chose to share it with all of you.
“Many years ago I attended a lecture by a then still pretty unknown German biophysicist, Prof Fritz Popp. I remember sitting on the edge of my seat, spellbound by the words of this remarkable man. In case you have not heard of Prof Popp, he and his team were the first ones to conclusively show that the living cell carries and emits light. This light, called biophotons, is the driving force of life. It is the catalyst for the approx 500,000 biochemical reactions that take place in a human cell every second and it is the medium through which cells communicate with one another. It has the quality of coherent light (like a laser) and although it is a ‘cold’ light, its intensity equals a heat source of approx 7000° Celsius!
When asked what happens to that light in someone with an illness, Prof Popp answered: “the light loses its coherence and consequently communication within and outside the cell ceases to function.” “So how can we change that?” was the next question. And his simple, yet profound answer filled the room: “We need to do everything to restore the light and bring it back into coherence“.
All the ancient texts and traditions speak of a luminous field that surrounds and permeates every living being. Trees and plants have it just like animals and humans. Prof Popp calls it the biophoton field, to most of us it may be better known as aura and chakras, and people who have trained their sixth sense are able to see this shimmering, undulating and constantly changing field of light, colour and energy surrounding all life forms. Our biophoton field is like a highly sophisticated computer that processes, stores and retrieves information that is then used to regulate our biological processes and determine the way we live and experience life. Our state of health and wellbeing and the power to bring ourselves back from dis-ease into health and harmony directly depend on the quality and amount of light we hold in our energy body. So doesn’t it make sense to increase the light we are carrying and transmitting?
One way to do this is to eat high energy (raw) food. We can absorb light energy through food as well as through our skin. The higher the level of light a substance emits, the greater is its vitality and the potential for the transfer of that light to the individual who ingests it. Therefore, the more light a food is able to store, the more nutritious it is. Naturally grown fresh vegetables and sun-ripened fruits are rich in light energy.
Spending time in nature is another wonderful way to increase our wellbeing and inner light. Not only can we absorb the powerful energy of the sun, but the pure light that is so abundantly present in nature calms our nerves, clears our vision and helps us feel more grounded, connected and energized.”
So here’s to light and the additional magic that raw foods bring to us!
