Delicious Cranberry Almond Slaw

Finally I am posting this recipe which I have already shared with many friends and family members who rave about it! This recipe is a perfect winter dish that is both satisfying, filling and of course delicious. And what’s more it is a no brainer, dead easy to put together. Throw all the ingredients in a food processor, mix, and voilà, your meal is ready! What more could you ask for??

I know this is the kind of recipe you all want more of, so I will keep this up as there are millions of raw food recipes to try out there on the net or even in the increasing number of raw food books that are being published, all of them appealing, attractive and irresistible. I have so many now I don’t know where to look. So my job is going to be to share with you those that I find are real winners, thus making life easier for you. With the crazy paced lives we all try to lead, remember to always take a bit of time off to breathe, relax, reconnect and enjoy.

This being said, here is the promised recipe, which was extracted from the wonderful website The Raw Table.

Cranberry Almond Slaw
Sweet, tangy, and crunchy. It’s all in there! Serves 4

Ingredients
- 1/4 of a green cabbage, chopped
- 1 cup cilantro
- 1/2 red bell pepper, chopped
- 1 large carrot, chopped
- 1/4 cup almonds
- 1/3 cup dried cranberries
- Juice of 1 lime
- 2 tablespoons flax oil
- 2 tablespoons agave nectar
- 2 tablespoons red onion, minced
- 1 large avocado, cut into bite-sized pieces

How to proceed:
Place all ingredients, except for the avocado, into a large food processor and pulse-chop until everything is cut up to desired size. Pour out into serving bowl and garnish with avocados. (On the picture I am missing the avocado, but don’t forget it as it adds great flavour and texture to this dish). Enjoy!

Raw Baby: An Inspiring Testimonial

There are numerous testimonials of people who have decided to adopt much healthier eating habits, with an increasingly higher raw content — no need to recap here the many health benefits of raw food. I’d like to take advantage of this blog to share with you some of these testimonials that come my way, in the hope that it may inspire you, show you the way, give you ideas on how to introduce, gradually, more raw food into your daily routine. The following testimonial comes from a journalist and mother who has gone one step further in following her own instinct as well as that of her baby to also introduce him to the most natural food there is.

I seize this opportunity to invite any of you who may want to share their own story and raw journey in this blog, because we clearly have so much to learn from one another’s experience! So don’t hesitate to contact me here if you are so inclined!

“When my youngest son was 18 months old, I met another Mom who was diversifying her 10-month old daughter by giving her only shredded fruit and veggies. This idea appealed to me and we discussed it. I made a promise to myself to diversify my next child by giving him more raw food. When he was born and reached 5 months, he suddenly began getting excited at the sight of food and was making it quite clear he wanted some. At first I thought it best to wait longer in order to avoid food allergies, especially as my second child has developed many and my baby was already intolerant to cow’s milk and gluten through my own breast milk. I finally gave in and the first time he sucked on a piece of apple, he was ecstatic! He’s particularly fond of apricots, but the season is so short. He loves grapes, cucumbers and… olives! Sprouted seeds too, especially fenugrec, when I chew it first. As to other foods, he can suck on all sorts of pieces without ever choking despite his having no teeth yet. I guess it all depends on the child. My baby is not keen on mashed food and baby purées. More recently, he has also tasted cooked food but I think he does better with raw… It depends on the food.

In the past few months, we have all started consuming more raw food at home (50% on average for me) and my second, who is now 3 years old, loves it. I didn’t use to offer it very often, because he dislikes green salad, but I have discovered that in addition to tomatoes, he loves raw cauliflower, radishes, and so many other things! In fact, raw food makes life so much easier when you are still breastfeeding a toddler who wants frequent feeds, because there is no cooking involved!”
